An Associated Press article about a chest injury sustained by new Buffalo Bills receiver Jordan Matthews, who is sidelined indefinitely because of a chip fracture in his sternum, interviews Matthew DiPaola, assistant professor of orthopaedics and sports medicine in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, who said a chip fracture involves a small sliver or shell breaking  off any bone in the body. Chip fractures don’t usually require surgery and are treated through rest and anti-inflammatory medicine, he said, adding that a chip fracture to the sternum could cause a person discomfort when breathing. The story appeared in hundreds of news outlets around the country, including ABC News, Yahoo Sports, Canada’s National Post, Boston Herald, Sacramento Bee, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, New York Daily News, Washington Post  and Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
